Do I need to change the transmission liquid on my 91' Saab 900S? Manual gearbox.

If yes, what oil should I use and whats the process? Whats the change interval (km)?

By SAAB´s past and present recommendations you dont have to worry about changing your manual gearbox oil, and there are no fixed change intervals at all.

In fact, SAAB´s opinion was/is that your factory filled gearbox oil should last & hold on the whole lifecycle of your gearbox. And when the oils are not changed properly, they do indeed. (When the transmission fails, we can say that the oil did well )

However it is healthy to change the transmission oil of the OG900 gearbox just to ease and extend the lifetime of a transmission box that is relatively weak by design.

A safe bet should be any mineral 10w-30/10w-40 motor oil.
A safer bet would be to get in to a local SAAB- dealer and ask for SAAB- MTF.

It's certainly not a bad idea to change the transmission fluid, especially if you feel that the gears are not working that fluently.
In my car the fluid was changed - now i have Red Line fluid. The transmission has been working smoothly even in low temperatures, below - 20 c.
