Hi all. I'm sorry i have to write in english to this site, but i live so shortly in Finland that i can't do it in finnish yet. I just moved here a year ago from Holland. I hope some of you still can help me sometimes with my guestions over my saab 900 t8 from -84. If it's impossible to answer in english, you can also do it in finnish and my wife'll try to translate it into dutch for me.

Question:
my saab's automatic transmission is not working quite well. The reverse is not working at all. In all other positions the car goes forward, including neutral. Does someone know what can be the problem? Does anybody have an instruction manual of that automatic gear box, cause i might try to fix it myself.

It's quite a daunting task to fix it yourself, but the first thing you should do is to check the oil level per the instructions written in the user's guide.

If the oil level is right, the problem is probably in the "worm box", ie. the hydraulic computer of the gearbox. Some flap or spring is missing or dead.

The worm box is that the front part of te transmission where is also the torque converter?

Saabpics server doesn't seem to respond today, but usually it's been quite stable and always available. Try again later. There are four or five pages of troubleshooting instructions from service manual - don't know if they help at all in your problem.

Hey, about a year ago i asked some questions hoping to solve the problems of the aut...transmission of my T8.
Well now i came to the conclusion that it's better to change it for a manual gearbox.
So i got my selve a spare car and got started...but now i need a new gasget that comes between the motor and manual gearbox.
The Saab dealer in Kuopio does not have one ,and said that thay can't order new anymore becouse the factory does not make them anymore
Does some one perhaps know where i can find one and how much a gasget like that costs.

As you can see, the gasket costs 3€, I'd put also some Loctite gasket glue with it.

i have once put the transmission on without the gasket using just this gasket glue from loctite. worked for me

Hey,about that gasket, the motor is 8V but the gearbox is comming from a 16V.
How do i know if i need the paper or the metal one??
Using only gasket glue,would be my last option if i could not find that gasket,which i now found on that Motonet site.

No matter does the gearbox come from 8v or 16v engine, theres no radical differencies with gasgets, but see below.

As for sealing the engine-gearbox-interphase, I would go also with some silicone sealant/gasget glue which can tolerate ~300C temperatures and oil. I used only gasget glue in last two transmission swaps, works great. IMO it is almost better solution then the paper/metal gasget.

Hey,yesterday i ordered the metal gasket from Motonet,and i'll also use gasketglue from Loctite 518.
The gasket costs 16€ but after sendingcosts over 28€ (nice business)
