Dear Ford customer
With this letter I would like to give you the current status of the safety recall for your new one Ford Kuga plug-in hybrid and you also know about the measures taken by Ford to inform. I assure you that your safety is our number one goal.
Despite a comprehensive series of tests in the preparatory phase of the Ford Kuga PHEV market launch, problems with the operation of the high-voltage battery and, in particular, with the way the vehicle dissipates the heat generated by the high-voltage battery, were identified in isolated cases. In a very small number of vehicles, this venting process led to overheating and, as a consequence, caused a vehicle fire. For this reason, we have asked you not to connect the high-voltage battery to any charging station and to select only the standard Auto EV mode for each journey. If you follow these instructions, your Kuga PHEV will be in a safe driving condition.
We are also doing everything we can to identify the cause of the problem and have included our global Ford team in finding a solution and taking corrective action as quickly as possible. While this process continues, I ask for your understanding and assure you that we are working flat out on a service campaign for your vehicle. As soon as this is completed, we will contact you to arrange an appointment with your local Ford dealer. The timeframe to get there will be longer than we have anticipated and hoped for and will likely be months rather than weeks. For this reason, we are unfortunately unable to give you a specific point in time to resolve the problem.
As announced in our previous communication, we would like to apologize to you for the inconvenience caused by a voucher for services or part purchases in the amount of Euro 350.00. We also offer you a fuel voucher *, which you can redeem for your Kuga PHEV at ARAL petrol stations up to an amount of EUR 500.00. With this gesture, we express our gratitude for your loyalty to the Ford brand.
The service voucher will be available from the Ford partner from whom you purchased the vehicle from the end of October 2020. The fuel voucher will be sent to you personally at your postal address.
We would like to point out again that your vehicle must not be connected to a public charging station or to your household charging station in order to charge the high-voltage battery. It is also important that you use your Kuga PHEV in the standard Auto EV mode every time you drive.
We recommend that you link your Ford Kuga PHEV to the FordPass app (Apple App Store / Google Play). This ensures that you always have the latest software installed for your vehicle and that you are always up to date with our communications. This video shows you how to easily link your vehicle to the FordPass app.
